BeskrivningIdentity Card No. 36-EA85589, in French. Card is French-issued by the Sub-Department of Foreigners and Passports to Alfred Hofbauer, issue date 13 January 1938. The Identity Card includes Hofbauer's b/w photograph and signature. It unfolds into 10 "panels" for repeat entries. The last entry is dated 17 April 1939. Alfred Hofbauer was born in 1913 in Vienna and found refuge in France c. 1938. He escaped to Switzerland c. 1939, joined the French Foreign Legion 1939/1940, then the Pioneer Corps, British Army in 1943. He fought in North Africa and Italy in World War II and came to Australia in 1946.
