ОписаниеLast letter from Rosa Abeles to her son Bedrich Fritz Albera, interned in Mauritius as an 'enemy alien', 28 November 1942. The envelope bears the markings of the German and Allied censors. Bedrich copied the content of the letter into one of his diaries (see M2017/039:002).
Rosa writes that she received a letter from him“exactly 24 hours before I will depart from here to the North.” She writes that Papa (his father) died on 22 August after much suffering.
She has faith in the lord and his plan and wishes for his happiness. She writes that Vera shies away from her and maybe they were not meant to be together. [Fritz was in a relationship with Vera prior to the war; she gave birth to their daughter after he had escaped.]
Fritz’s mother Rosa was deported to Terezin on 2 December 1941 and from there to Riga where she was murdered.
