НазваниеDie Neue Zeit
Описание'Die Neue Zeit', German newspaper, published in Shanghai by the Jewish community, 25 June 1946. Collected by Edgar and Irene Boehm, German Jewish refugees in Shanghai from 1939 until 1946 when they immigrated to Australia.
It speaks for the German-Jewish dominance amongst the refugees in Shanghai in 1946. The publication reflects the highly cultured German-Jewish composition of this refugee group in the style of the articles which in literary terms is remote from German Street vernacular. Judging by the activities listed one could describe the conditions of this community as “thriving” with the presence of HIAS and organized procedures in place for emigration to other parts of the world (including Palestine). In these terms Shanghai appears to be the hub for further emigration. Long lists of departures from Shanghai are published. In reporting on the world scenes the paper covers the Irgun attack on the King David Hotel in Jerusalem which housed the British Administration headquarters and the world wide condemnation of the attack which also claimed Jewish victims. There is a report on further atomic bomb tests in the Pacific although Japan already surrendered in September 1945.
