ОписаниеThis is a drawing created with pen, ink and pencil of a scene of two concentration camp prisoners being beaten and threatened with a gun by two SS officers. They are surrounded by barbed wire. The artwork is captioned as taking place at Janowska concentration camp in Lwow, Poland.
Created in 1992, this drawing is historically and artistically significant as it was created by Holocaust survivor, Adam Szus, who lived in Brzostek, Poland before the war.
This drawing was inspired by Adam’s experiences throughout the war and the suffering that he witnessed and endured first-hand. This particular artwork is a representation of camp life and the suffering and oppression endured by the prisoners during this time.
This artwork was used to illustrate 'Not to Forgive. "Remember....Don't Forget" The Biography of Abraham Leib Schuss at the time of the Second World War' [in file].

Roslyn Sugarman: Would you have liked to have been an artist?
Adam Szus: "With anti-Semitism, how can you be an artist! You need a trade to earn a piece of bread. After Yeshiva, I made a trade as a Silversmith. You needed to draw and they taught you how to draw. When I retired age 71 I had nothing to do. I started to draw. I saw a lot. These drawings are from my imagination."
