Создатель8th Sydney (Judean) Scout Group
ОписаниеThis is a Log Book documenting the meetings and activities of the 8th Sydney (Judean) Scout Group between 1958 and 1964. The 8th Sydney (Judean) Scout Group was formed in 1958 with its Inaugural Meeting held on 5th February 1958. Harry Barnard was the founding President of the Group and Bill Holloway was the founding Group Scoutmaster. The Scout Group received significant support and sponsorship from the NSW Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen and Women (NAJEX) including access to the NAJEX Hall for activities free of charge. The book features typed minutes of the meetings and handwritten Group Scoutmaster Reports detailing the main points of discussion at meetings including recruiting and interviewing scouters, applying for land grants, equipment lists, donations, group events, petty cash and balance sheets. Annual Scout Group activities included the Pennant Hills Religious Service, participation in the NAJEX Remembrance Day Service and Bobs for Jobs Week. A Group Scoutmaster report from 23 February 1959 states that declining numbers were felt in both sections of the Troop which impacted on outdoor activities and training programmes. In 1959, President Barnard retired and was replaced by J. Freedman. Other entries of interest include five Annual Reports, the Order of Service for a religious service held at Pennant Hills Training Camp on Sunday 5th July 1959, a letter sent from Bill Holloway to parents that did not attend the June 1959 meeting of the Group Committee stressing the need for their support to ensure strength in Cub training, an edition of the NSW Boy Scouts’ Association 8th Sydney (Judean) News, a proposal for the work shirt colour to be changed from khaki to a colour decided by the Group Council with a V-neck, short sleeves and blue and white piping across the chest and back and discussion about the proposed Scout Hall featuring timber walls and floor, a fibro roof and total area of 2,350 square feet (estimated cost £5,500). After several years of negotiation, the laying of the foundation for the Scout Hall was scheduled to occur on the 9th February 1964.
