ОписаниеService ribbons for Abe Weingott who was awarded the 1914-1915 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. These ribbons are worn without medals. Please note that the ribbons have been mounted in the wrong order – here they are mounted Victory Medal, British War Medal and 1914-1915 Star.
Abraham served in WWI, first in the artillery and then in the Employment Coy eventually rising to the rank of Sergeant. This photo was likely taken just after he enlisted. Abe enlisted on 24 August 1914 and embarked from Australia on 18 October 1914. e arrived in Egypt for training and from there was sent to Gallipoli. He then served in France. He was wounded in action, a gunshot wound to his left leg on 23 October 1917 in Belgium and was sent to England to recuperate. He re-joined his unit on 29 January 1918 but in March was sent to the hospital sick. According to records Abe developed deafness. On 2 May Abe was transferred to the Employment Company where he served until he returned to Australia on 24 September 1918.
