John Einfeld was born 21 Dec 1915. His parents migrated to Australia from England in 1909, both were born in Poland. His father was a Chazzan. As the Second World War approached John became interested in the First World War. In 1939, John was approaching the end of his Law Degree. He enlisted in the army in May 1939 and he was admitted to practice as a solicitor in August 1939. John trained in Australia and was responsible for training others. He thought that he would be fighting in Europe but instead was send to New Guinea and then to Bougainville Island. John was discharged March 1946 with the rank of Captain in H Q 2 Australia Corps.
