ОписаниеOil painting on canvas of the Warsaw Ghetto, signed by Gabriel Cohen on the bottom right hand corner "Le guetto de Varsovie", dated 4.3.1979. It appeared on an exhibition at the Debel Gallery in Ein-Kerem, Jerusalem, in March 1982 and was purchased by Lillian Hoffman for $1000. The painting is in a naive style; it depicts a birds eye panoramic view of roundups and acts of violence and murder by the Nazi Germans against the Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto. The events taking place in the foreground of the canvas are staged, reminiscent of the story frescoes of Giotto or the American tradition of the comic strip. Buildings are carefully delineated and stretch far into the distance.
