ОписаниеPage 16 from the Argus Pictorial Supplement, Saturday June 8, 1940. The Argus was a Melbourne newspaper. Two illustrations, the first is titled “Flame Throwers were in use Centuries Ago.” It shows a series of illustrations on a historical overview of flamethrowers from the middle ages to World War 1. The second illustration is titled “Diabolical Warfare Waged by Germans in Flanders. This illustration shows the artist’s impression of German flame throwing tanks in action in Flanders. The pen and ink wash drawings are highlighted with red and yellow. Marcuse’s signature appears on this page on the lower left corner.
Ernst Marcuse (1900-1985) was a commercial artist and illustrator who came to Australia in 1939. He produced many war illustrations for The Argus Newspaper and joined the Australian Army where he produced many visual aid material for training and illustrating for Army publications.
