Создатель Egon Starer
ОписаниеCandlestick with silver Star of David on mahogany base, designed by Egon Starer, manufactured by Chinese craftsmen in Shanghai in 1950. It features a world globe (18 carat gold on silver), two carved ivory lions, and an enamelled flag of Israel.
The candelabrum was produced to encompass three facets: As a memorial to the memory of the Six Million Jews who perished in the Holocaust, as an acknowledgement that Shanghai offered a safe haven for Egon and Sabina Starer, and to acknowledge the birth of the State of Israel.
Egon (Eisig) Starer was born in Vinograd Poland on 10 February 1903. He left Poland as a young boy around the age of 16-17 for Vienna where he had an uncle. He studied chemistry. He married Sabina Schlesinger in Vienna in 1934. He and Sabina escaped to Shanghai (details unknown). They migrated to Sydney in 1950. Egon established Osta Chemicals. Sabina passed away in 1967. Egon married Fritzi (Fryderyka) Tauber in 1968, who had a son Serge, donor of the artefact.
