ОписаниеB/W photograph showing Mala Sonnabend (on right) behind a large pile of luggage, waiting to board the French ship, Ville d'Amiens, Marseille, 1946. "Not all the luggage belonged to me. I was left to watch over the suitcases while others went to do other things." The ship brought Mala and her husband, Isi, to Australia, arriving 25 November 1946. Isi Sonnabend and Mala Rekant met in the Bialystock Ghetto. They were separated when the ghetto was liquidated then briefly reunited in Auschwitz. They were separated again when Auschwitz was evacuated by the Nazis then miraculously reunited in Sweden after the war.
