ОписаниеMarriage certificate issued by the Jewish congregation Wyznania testifying that Izak Prowizor (George Prow) married Maria Sulikowska in a religious ceremony and notes one reason for the ceremony was Izak's gratitude towards her for saving his life.
Izak Prowizor met Maria Sulikowska, a Polish Catholic woman, in 1939 as she was a tenant of Prowizor's family property in Otynia, Poland. From 1941 to 1944 she risked her life by providing Jews with food and shelter. In 1942 George spent six months hiding in a brick factory. Whenever he could, he returned to Maria’s house for meals. The bunker was discovered by the Gestapo. The group who was hiding was deported to the Stanislowow ghetto. George escaped and went to Maria who hid him in a wardrobe until the Russians liberated Otynia. In November 1947 George married his rescuer.
On 9 May 1985, Yad Vashem honoured Maria Prow as Righteous Among the Nations.
