ОписаниеHandwritten Witness Statement, in Polish, about the death of Henryk Reznik. Henryk Reznik is the brother of the donor David Reznik. Henryk Reznik was a member of a Resistance Movement.
Two photocopies of official translations in English accompany the original document.
The 1st statement is an official translation dated Warsaw 11 September 1989, given by the witness Michal Chiniewicz. Summary of contents: Michal Chiniewicz was in active service in the Polish Army from 1939 to July 1944, then called up to service in the Peoples Polish Army. He made a statement under oath, the contents of which refer to the fact that in February – March 1942 in the Baranowicze region where he lived, a unit of Home Army was created. The unit covered the territory of Tartak and localities Lesna and Mysz Nowa, and included some 30 members. The Commander of the unit was Sergeant Officer Cadet Heniek (Chaim) Reznik, who previously lived in the village of Tartak. For security reasons, he was in hiding in various locations at homes of Poles who supported the Resistance Movement. In the 2nd half of 1943 Sergeant Officer Cadet Heniek Reznik became ill. His health deteriorated rapidly, especially because in hiding, the conditions were not the most favourable. The witness states that at the end of August/beginning of September 1943, while in hiding at Jozef Zukowski (head of the village, who lived at Lesna), Reznik died. He was buried in the forest between Tartak and Lesna.
The 2nd statement is an official translation dated Warsaw 13 September 1989, signed by Dr Roman Korab-Zebryk, who was a member of the Home Army from 1942, who certifies that Henryk Reznik, son of Borys, born 31.12.1912 in Poland, was known to him personally as a member of Resistant Movement. He makes reference to the statement of Michal Chiniewicz. Henryk had a pseudonym “Robert” and from the beginning of 1942 organized the armed unit, which was the beginning of Home Army Partisan Movement. The unit performed acts of sabotage and diversion on the German front. He confirms that because of difficult conditions, Henryk Reznik was taken ill and died in the autumn of 1943.
