ОписаниеPostcard featuring an image of Belz Synagogue. The letter on the reverse is written in Russian, sent from Poland to Lvov, dated 4 September 1937.
Dear Latka(?),
Sending you one more card and it will be last this year. Thank you very much for your card! Just a few words, because Tuesday morning I will be in Lwow. I will be at your place after dinner and want very much to see you there. I will come just for a short visit, so if you have something urgent to do in the city don't wait for me, if I will not see you after dinner, I will come late evening.
See you Tuesday.
The synagogue in Belz, dedicated in 1843, was destroyed by the Nazis in 1939. Belz is a Hasidic dynasty founded in the town of Belz in Western Ukraine, near the Polish border. The group was founded in the early 19th century by Rabbi Shalom Rokeach, and led by his son, Rabbi Yehoshua Rokeach, and grandson, Rabbi Yissachar Dov, and great-grandson, Rabbi Aharon, before the Nazi invasion of Poland in 1939. While Rabbi Aharon managed to escape Europe, most of the Belz Hasidim were killed. Rabbi Aharon re-established the Hasidut in Tel Aviv.
