ОписаниеBrown leather pouch donated by Susan (Susi) Loeffler, who was born in Vienna on 25 October 1923. Susan was given the pouch by her father, Stefan Loeffler, the night before she departed from Czechoslovakia on the Kindertransport. Susan left from Wilson Station, Prague, in July 1939 (aged 15), roughly six weeks before the war broke out.
She was taken via train and boat to Liverpool Station in London with the British Committee for Refugees from Czechoslovakia, established by Sir Nicholas Winton. She worked as a nurse and maid there for a few years.
Before being taken to London, Susan lived in the small industrial town of Susice, Czechoslovakia with her father, mother Alice Loeffler (nee Meisel), her half-sisters Ludmila (Mila) and Gertrude (Trudi) and half-brother Wilhelm Willi, from Stephan’s previous marriage to Maria Anna Cvetlerova.
Susi's parents were deported to Terezin and were later taken to Auschwitz in 1944 where they were murdered. Her half-siblings all survived into adulthood by emigrating before the German invasion.
In 1953 Susan moved to Sydney Australia, and lived with a tradesman George Krocak for 18 years. They never married or had children. Susan worked as a nurse and midwife at the King George V Memorial Hospital and late Royal Prince Alfred Hospital until she retired in 1981, aged 58. She died October 2018.
