The donor's father , Royal George Browne, was as a machine gunner but in England transferred to the Australian Flying Corp where he was a pilot.
Saddler Sergeant Sylvester Henry Browne of the First Australian Light Horse Regiment participated in the capture of Tel el Saba (the site of ancient Beersheba). He proudly claimed to have been the first Jewish soldier of the British and Imperial forces to enter the ancient Land of Israel. He also served in Gallipoli.
Lou served in France, where he was badly wounded and returned to England where he eventually recovered.
Roy Browne was attached to Intelligence between World War I and World War ll and served with well known Brigadier, Black Jack Galleghan. He then enlisted and was OC of a security unit and volunteered to go to New Guinea but they found out his age and kept him in Australia.
