David Les Pahoff was born 6 March 1922 in Footscray, Victoria. Les helped his father Wolf with the family dairy business which provided kosher milk. Les enlisted in the army on 1 August 1944. He had tired of the family business and wanted to get away.
Les served in New Guinea as a driver. He remembers attending Jewish services while serving and has leave passes as evidence. Les returned to Australia as a result of a nervous breakdown.
After a few months in hospital he was released. He eventually became a port inspector. Les joined VAJEX in 1946 and was a part of several veterans organisations.
