Scholars have argued for decades that the Holocaust was a unique event not just in Jewish history but in all of human history. The Jews caught up in the event knew as it was unfolding that Jews had never faced anything like this before. How does one make sense of such a unique event? And most importantly for a people raised in a religiously charged environment: How does one understand God's relationship to the event?
