Beschrijving

The 'Bulletin' represented the growing nationalism is Australia. The paper advocated an aggresive nationalist policy as well as being opposed to foreign capital investment. However, it was this policy which led the 'Bulletin' to attack 'the Jew', as being part of international finance and usury. While most historians have concentrated on the 'Bulletin's' antisemiticism in the 1890s during the period of depression and the Russian migration scare, this article has studied the first five years of the 'Bulletin's' publication, from 1880-1885. His detailed study of these years has shown that these antisemetic attitudes existed in the pages of the 'Bulletin' from the beginning of its publication.
