Beschrijving

This article examines the growth of population and its distribution according to regions and peoples in the Republic of Poland from 1870 - 1931, the period of most intensive capitalist development. Initially the general rate of urbanization was low, but the percentage of Jews living in metropolitan areas was higher than that of non-Jews. However, in the last years of the Republic the percentage of Poles in the urban population rose rapidly compared to that of Jews, so the percentage of Jews within the metropolitan population declined.
