Zuccotti questions the validity of frequent assertions that Pius XII directed men and women of the Church to save Jews. There is no question that many Catholic clergymen, nuns and monks helped in the rescue of Jews. Most helped by not reporting what they saw. The purpose in this article has been to examine common assertions about a benevolent Pius and the conclusion is that there is no evidence to indicate that the Holy Father ever directed his flock to save Jews. She also re-evaluates claims about Jewish expressions of gratitude to Pius after World War II ended
