Against capitulation

The author is a Slovak Jew whose family survived the Holocaust in hiding, then emigrated to America when he was five years old. Where they proceded to 'forget' the past while at the same time asserting a sense of Jewish identity which the child found impossible to grasp. In 1978 at the age of forty he decided to revisit Czechoslovakia in an attempt to resolve the enigmas.
