Beschrijving

Talks about the work of U.S. Army Jewish chaplains in trying to provide for physical and spiritual needs of Jewish survivors of the Holocaust. Aside from the more immediate requirements such as food, clothing or religious counselling, the chaplains also escorted some refugees to Palestine; acted as liasons with the American Jewish community, and assisted with arranging a political structure for the survivors. Describes the response of the U.S. army and government to the plight of the displaced persons and, in a controversial judgement, argues that neither American Jewry nor the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee reacted to the crisis with enough support
