[nb-NO]Description[nb-NO]Miniature religious enamel pendant, gold mounted, hand painted with image of Moses and the Ten Commandments on the front side and the She'ma prayer, a foundational prayer of Judaism recorded in Deuteronomy 6:4 in Hebrew on the back. It belonged to Ivan Ascher's great great grandmother, thus dated to c1900. It was tradition in the family to pass it down to the eldest daughter. Katalin Ascher (nee Katz) (Ivan's mother) received it from her mother Matilda Katz (nee Grunstein, died 1944), who received it from her mother Amelia Grunstein (nee Isaac). Ivan's family was in hiding with false papers in Budapest but it is not clear how they kept the jewelry with them.
