This was the first edition of the Maccabean Annual, which was the official organ for the NSW Jewish War Memorial, and was published in September 1933. This document records the activities of the NSW Jewish War Memorail/Maccabean Institute and defines its purpose, use and aspirations. It also includes local advertisements, poems, excerpts from literature and humourous articles, along with reports about the efforts of the Maccabean Institute to be a communal centre and information on Maccabean sports and the upcoming 1933-1934 Interstate Sports Carnival. The newsletter names people involved in the Maccabean Institute and Maccabean Sports, including Cecil M Goldstein and Ruth Goldberg and, in the article naming and describing the Council Members, it also mentions the importance of Jews activating themselves in non-Jewish life to continue to counter antisemitism in Australia.
