[nb-NO]Description[nb-NO]Landing Permit No. 40212 from the Commonwealth of Australia Department of Immigration, Canberra, issued to Alfred Hofbauer on December 13, 1945. It was certified as a true and exact copy "In the Field" on 30 April 1946 and bears the stamp from the Orderly Room, 338 (A) Company Pioneer Corps. It states that Hofbauer, a stateless person, at present residing in Italy, is granted admission to Australia. It goes on to state that Alfred is sponsored by his brother, Fritz Hofbauer of North Carlton, and that the permit is valid until 13 December 1947. Alfred Hofbauer was born in 1913 in Vienna and found refuge in France c. 1938. He escaped to Switzerland c. 1939, joined the French Foreign Legion 1939/1940, then the Pioneer Corps, British Army in 1943. He fought in North Africa and Italy in World War II and came to Australia in 1946.
