The base of the figure includes the inscribed title; 'There Is Money In It'. These figures are caricatured with stereotypical 'Jewish' features such as the hooked nose, side locks and beards. This type of anti-Semitic sculpture is commonplace in history, infused throughout Western art and popular culture for many centuries. Since the 18th century the hooked nose found its place as racial stereotype in the history of anti-Semitic symbolism displayed not only in caricatures and books but also in every-day objects and decorative pieces. During the Nazi regime, these stereotypes were used with deadly motives. Propaganda campaigns utilised popular media such as films, books, posters as well as toys to perpetuate a continued negative stereotype towards the Jewish people who were characterised as ‘degenerates, criminals, and racially inferior’.
