[nb-NO]Description[nb-NO]Megillah Esther from the collection belonging to the Simon Philip de Vries, Rabbi of the Haarlem Jewish community. The collection was first hidden with the ten Boom family, then with the Gerrit Jongens in early 1940s. Rabbi de Vries was deported to the concentration camps and murdered. There is a plaque dedicated to him in Haarlem.
Garrick was in business with his brother-in-law Jan van Leeuwen. They had a removalist company and the items were left in their storeroom. After the war, two men from the Jewish community came to retrieve the collection but it is not know why these two items were left. Gerrit looked after these items and brought them to Australia when he migrated.
