[nb-NO]Description[nb-NO]
Rabbi Dr Israel Porush was Chief Minister of Sydney's Great Synagogue from 1940. He set about examining the issues of mixed marriages, reforming the local Beth Din, and the process of conversion to Judaism. He followed halakhic guidelines and was empathetic towards the applicants, including Jewish refugees of the late 1930s and the post war period who had converted to Christianity in order to escape persecution.
