Blaubaum was born into an Orthodox German Jewish family in 1847 and arrived in Melbourne in 1873 to minister to the St. Kilda Hebrew Congregation, which he would do for 31 years. He also edited the "Jewish Herald" for over 20 years. He died in 1904.
