The year 1938 was considered a fateful year for the future of German Jewry. By the end of that year the Nazis' intentions could no longer be doubted. Their determination to reach a final solution of the Jewish question was by then unmistakable. "Kristallnacht" brought home to German Jewry the hopelessnes of their situation
