This essay is the story of the author's grandparents who came to Australia as a result of being uprooted from their homes during World War II. Each of them came from a different country and, if not for the war, would never have ended up in Australia. They orginated from different economic and cultural backgrounds, all having been through completely different experiences during the war. However, due to the disruptions caused by World War II they all found themselves in Australia leading similar lifestyles.
