Krakowski directed Yad Vashem's archive for 15 years. He significantly enlarged the archive's holdings, established strict archival standards that influence the running of the archive, and developed and maintained good working relations with archives in many countries; among them Poland, during the Communist period and the post-Communist countries after the collapse of the Soviet bloc
