In the novels of Arnost Lustig the attempt of creating an impression of authenticity by integrating very direct and explicit naturalistic scenes dominated by brutality, has been criticized as a tendency towards superficiality and triviality. This problem is dicussed in Lustig's novel 'Colette' in this article.
