In October 2012 a memorial to the Sinti and Roma of Europe who were murdered by the Nazis was dedicated. Previously their persecution had gone unacknowledged in the decades following the war. The unreliability of pre-Holocaust population figures and the minimal research make it difficult to estimate the number who perished.
