Yidisher Visnshaftlekher Institut (YIVO, Jewish Scientific Institute) was divided into various sections, and its scholarly achievements in all fields are well known. During the 15 years of its existence from 1925-1939 YIVO in Poland amassed a unique collection of records and books. Its library and archives were housed in a newly constructed building in Vilna. YIVO occupied a distinct place in Jewish scholarship in the field of history
