This chapter analyses the historical meaning and legacy of the Judischer Kulturbund by specifically focusing on two major efforts in the late 1980s and early 1990s to commemorate the league in Germany. These efforts give witness to contemporary concerns - responses to the Holocaust and German politics of the period - that have marked our understanding of this organization. By unravelling these concerns the author attempts to present a more accurate account of the league's history and its meaning, as well as its legacy today.
