The attitude and policies of the Vatican in World War II have been the centre of a harsh polemic, and although new documentary evidence has not been provided, the Holy See has published a series of volumes on its policies during the war, including documents on its policies regarding the Jews. Until the Vatican archives are opened to scrutiny, the chances of changing our basic perception of what the Vatican knew about the Holocaust are nil
