In this study, the biographies of 462 scholars were examined. Their fate was dependent on the stage of the scholars' careers, their field of expertise, nationality, country of residence or exile. 43 emigrated, 21 remained in their home countries, 12 were imprisoned and 5 died in concentration camps. As diverse as this group of scholars was, the regime forced them out of their position and work
