The author argues that the treatment of National Socialism in the future will be marked by a new historicism. In the future he argues the focus will no longer be on the creation of consensus via disgust for a criminal regime and the numerous entanglements of contemporaries implicated in it. Rather emphasis will be on viewing and placing National Socialism era within the continuity of German history as a whole.
