Personal reminiscences of a young girl growing up in pre-WWII Poland and struggling to survive during the Nazi occupation. The book is the realization of the author's mother's last plea: to survive to tell the world. When the labor camp was finally liberated by the Soviet army, Tosia was the only survivor of her family. The sixteen-year old survivor now struggles to return to normalcy and prepare for the future, but can never forget the horrors of the past.
