Set in a Ukrainian village (Shamgorod) in 1649, this play takes place in the aftermath of a pogrom. The idea for the play came from an event that Wiesel witnessed as a boy in Auschwitz: "Three rabbis decided one evening to indict G-d for allowing his children to be massacred
