A personal account of the mass killings at Auschwitz. Muller, who was sent to the camp in mid-1942, eluded the gassings having been consigned to the sonderkommando, and survived to bear witness to the Nazi atrocities. He presents numerous individual incidents in the day-to-day camp life, plus an overview of camp society. He is especially good at showing how Nazi deceptions destroyed the inmates psychologically, morally and ultimately, physically.
