Thirteen year old Eva Heyman left a diary that she kept from February 13 to May 30, 1944, in which she describes her life in a small Hungarian town under Nazi occupation. After her mother and stepfather (Bela Zsolt) fled on the Kasztner train Eva lived with her grandparents before she and they were taken to Auschwitz and murdered. Her mother, who organised the publication of the diary committed suicide in 1948
