Like Anne Frank, the diarist was a young Dutch Jew who recorded her personal ordeal in a journal, in this instance from March 1941 to 1943. Etty fled from Germany and was trapped when the Nazis overran the Netherlands. She was eventually captured and sent to Westerbork, and later deported to Auschwitz where she was executed.
