DescrizioneDeutsches Reich Reisepass - German passport for Klärchen Dames (nee Kreisle) and her daughter Gertrud Dames (see the supplementary on page 6 and 7), stamped with a red letter 'J' (on 15 March 1939) identifying the passport holder as Jewish. The middle name 'Sara' has been inserted. The passport is stamped 'Polizeipräsident in Berlin Abteilung II' (Police Commissioner in Berlin department II), dated 15 March 1939 and signed by Köhn.
The passport contains a visa to Australia, stamped U.K. 24 March 1939 and, inter alia, transit stamps of the U.K. 23 April 1939 and Bombay 18 May 1939.
Klarchen, married to Jacob Dames, had two children, Frieda and Gertrud. They escaped Germany, travelling on the British ocean liner RMS Maloja, arriving in Australia on 30 May 1939.
