DescrizionePage 4 from the Argus Pictorial Supplement, Saturday June 8, 1940. The Argus was a Melbourne newspaper. The illustration is titled “Sea and Air Feats in Rescuing the B.E.F.” These illustrations show the prowess of the RAF in evacuating the British Expeditionary Force from a garrison in Boulogne Harbour. The pen and ink wash drawings are highlighted with blue. Marcuse’s signature appears on this page on the lower right corner.
Ernst Marcuse (1900-1985) was a commercial artist and illustrator who came to Australia in 1939. He produced many war illustrations for The Argus Newspaper and joined the Australian Army where he produced many visual aid material for training and illustrating for Army publications.
