The illustration is titled “British Bantams Hammer Nazi Heavyweight.” The black and white pen and ink wash illustration shows the German pocket battle-ship Admiral Graf Spee fleeing from British fire. It appears to be drawn by Marcuse however his signature does not appear on this front page issue. Page 2 of the supplement shows illustrations by Marcuse titled “How We Chased the Graf Spee Off the High Seas.” This illustration depicts four stages in the surrender and sinking of the Graf Spee in South America. Marcuse’s signature appears on this page on the lower right corner of the third illustration. Ernst Marcuse (1900-1985) was a commercial artist and illustrator who came to Australia in 1939. He produced many war illustrations for The Argus Newspaper and joined the Australian Army where he produced many visual aid material for training and illustrating for Army publications.
