Descrizione
Offers an overview of Australia's post-World War II immigration policies, particularly as they applied to suspected European war criminals. In 1947 the Australian Government agreed to accept 170,000 displaced perons, no questions asked. In 1952, the government facilitated the entry of over one million persons up to 1959, not considering whether any might be war criminals. Following a change of government, it was established that a significant number of war criminals had been admitted, naming 200. In late 1987, legislation was passed providing for the extradition and deportation of war criminals.
