Adam Czerniakow was chairman of the Warsaw Judenrat ("Mayor" --Warsaw Ghetto) from September 6, 1939-July 23,1942 when he committed suicide. He kept this secret journal of that city within a city before its half-million people were deported to the death camp at Treblinka
